Wanna come over for dinner? I was looking through the latest Cooking Light the other day and noticed a lot of the recipes (for cakes and such) called for some amount of orange juice. In my brain, this causes red flags and chuckles. Chrissy gets the magazine too so I asked her if she'd seen the recipe for the pumpkin cake. "I know! It has orange juice in it. HAHAHAHA." Chrissy, Tommy, David and I have been friends for a pretty long time. Which means we've eaten lots of meals together. Lots of them prepared on our own. But a couple stand out. 1. Tommy's roast beef is amazing. (It's perfectly acceptable to drool now. Just don't short out the computer.) 2. The flank steak and mashed potatoes I made a few years ago. In my defense, it was a new recipe. And it was the first time I'd made flank steak. And haven't made it since, actually. It called for orange juice in the marinade. And not just orange juice, but the frozen concentrate, so the taste would be even more powerful. To make matters worse -- or more insteresting -- the mashed potatoes also called for some of the concentrate. We all took one bite of those potatoes and made a face. The kindest thing I can say is that they were weird. Kinda gummy and all orangelike. BLEH. But Tommy, ever the gentleman, sprinkled some salt on them and ate what was on this plate. Of course, he talks now about how awful they were. And actually, when they were here a month or so ago, he didn't mind telling me that my potoatoes weren't cooked all the way through. (It was the microwave's fault!) See how far we've come? The rule here: If I make something that turns out awful, there's a pizza menu in the drawer. Now who's coming for dinner?

I'll bring the wine!

Can you describe the roast beef, though, just so I can get warmed up?

Oooh. Wine. And ooooh... the roast beef. Mmmm.

Well, let's see. It's pink in the middle, tender, juicy with that texture only roast beef can have.
