It sucks when... I've decided to develop a couple of standing post titles. I present "It sucks when..." and "It rocks when..." Sadly, today (actually yesterday) is not the day that something rocks. Today something sucks. And here it is: It sucks when...* You go into the grocery store and it isn't raining, but when you come out it's pouring buckets. And further, you already have some stuff in the boot (let's face it, it's not really a trunk) of your Mini Cooper. So you try to stuff bags in using one hand because the other hand is holding the umbrella. And you just want to throw stuff on the ground and cry, but a. that will make it harder to get things into the car without everything getting soaked and b. the store is near your house, so it's not fair to assume that no one you know is there or that those people would never remember you. Because they would. So, yes, you say to your husband, that is what happened to the Honey Nut Cheerio box. You couldn't get it into the boot using one hand and the box fell out of the bag onto the ground. Now the box is soggy. But life goes on. I think the Cheerios will survive. There is an upside to this "It sucks when..." though. And that's when you've finally gotten everything shoved into the car and you're driving home. You can laugh at yourself a little before you realize that when you pull into the driveway, the process starts all over because you have to get everything into the house. It will not, however, be in one trip this time. It will be in three trips and you will hope that in the process of getting it into the house, the cat will not run outside becuase that would be the last straw. (To his credit he didn't. This time.) When you finally get into the house, you will need just a minute to collect yourself before you can put everything away. And while you're having that minute, you hope the cat will not be chewing on the container of strawberries. (On the plastic. Perhaps to get at the berries.) Or pushing things off the counter with his head. *Most "It sucks when..." postings will not be this long. Probably.
