"This used to be the place to live in Richmond" Today, we went on a walking tour of the Fan District. The tour leader called the area the "lower Fan." And it turned out to be mostly a tour of the VCU campus, where David and I went to college. So yeah. We spent four years on campus and then eight years later, we're paying someone to tell us about it. Huh. Actually, though, the houses along Franklin Street were bought by VCU through the years and now they're all university offices. I didn't appreciate them while I had the chance -- and it was interesting to learn the histories behind the buildings. So it was worth the $14 it cost us both to go. The funny part was the tour leader. She was very Richmond. I wonder where the Richmond accent comes from anyway. I don't really know anyone younger than 50 who talks that way. "If yewll lohk to youah lehft, yewll see the coenahs of the howses have terrets." Also, I could tell that she had money. From her car to her jewelry to... her speech. I really think that no one in Richmond except the rich speak that way. And oh yes, she drove a Mercedes. Big giveaway. That's not the funny part though. She was very ladylike except for one thing. She was wearing capri pants that were loose around her waist. And she had tucked her white sleeveless shirt into her pants. And. She had tucked her shirt... into her underwear. And since the pants were loose, they kept falling down. But the underwear had no problem staying where they were supposed to be. The tops of them had flipped down and I could even see the tag. What a show. Oh. And we were the youngest people in the group. No surprise there. As we ended the tour and were walking through Monroe park back to the starting point, this guy sitting on the grass was making fun of the people in the group. What a jerk. He said something about "f'ing antiques." I should have given him a dirty look, but he looked pretty scary. So I let it go. This time.

I'm going to require an impression of that accent, if you don't mind, missus.
