Muggles, grindiloes and hinkypinks I'll admit it. I'm a bit of a Harry Potter nut. I'm waiting as we speak for UPS to accidentally bring me the book a day early. Alas, I know that won't happen. But it's good to have dreams. I've read every book and seen every movie. Some of my friends, they just don't understand the magic that is Harry Potter. But I don't get what's NOT to be obsessed about. They're just so fun. Well now, they're getting more serious. (Or Sirius. HAHA!) But it's just so cool to escape to Rowling's world of witchcraft and wizardry. I've always held on to the dream that maybe there's magic in this world and we muggles can't see it because we're short sighted. I first heard of Harry Potter from a boss I had at a previous job. She'd just read it and was transfixed -- always talking about Platform 9 3/4 and the horrible Dursleys. At first I thought she was a little nuts -- it's a kids' book after all. It took about another year for me ponder actually reading the first book. It wasn't until I moved towns and switched jobs that I started reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I bought it in paperback. Just in case, you know, I hated it I wouldn't have spent too much on it. (Now I buy hardcovers) It was summer 2001. We'd moved into an apartment with a pretty nice pool, so before work I'd work out then sit by the pool with HP for a while. (I work nights.) I have very fond memories of that summer. I read the first three books that way. Maybe the fourth too. By the fifth book, we'd bought the house and there was no pool to lounge next to. But! Good news! The new fancy health club has a really nice pool. So, I'll be spending some quality time there with the new book as soon as it comes in the mail. ANY. DAY. NOW. Tonight at 12:01, the book goes on sale -- I'm sure everyone in the world knows that. After work David (who wishes to be called Darkside now) and I are going to a party at an independent bookstore. It's going to be AWESOME because the store is recreating Diagon Ally and is actually building sets of the stores and the restaurant, The Leaky Couldron. And they're gonna sell wands and robes and such and the Leaky Couldron will serve Butterbeer. Now come on! How fun is that!? And don't worry, I'll take photos of us playing with the 10-year-olds.
