Wine with dinner We just had a fantastic dinner. Steak with baked potato and broccoli. And. Argentine Malbec . Um. YUM. Here's what Wine Enthusiast says about it: "Saturated and extracted, with an incredibly deep purple tint paving the way for manly aromas of espresso, campfire and toasted coconut. The palate, meanwhile, runs a bit sweet, with boysenberry and plum. Soft on the back end, but with enough spine to see it through. For fans of bold reds." Only a couple things. 1. I did not taste espresso, campfire and toasted coconut. I think I need a second glass. 2. And what does this mean? "Soft on the back end, but with enough spine to see it through." But wait. I like the last sentence. For fans of bold reds. That's me! I confess I've been reading this book. And it's putting all kinds of ideas into my head. Like "Pssst... Buy a decanter." and "Heeeey. Don't you want to go to the wine store?" Well, hell yeah I want to go to the wine store, but I can't right now. So go away little obsession angel. Wait! Not too far away. So after reading the book all week, I decided I'd stop by the Wine Cellar today and I made my very first purchases all on my own. One was the Malbec. (It was great with the steak. If you get it, decant it for about an hour and then chill it in the fridge for about 15 minutes. The longer it's exposed to air, the better it tastes.) The other is a Rosso Salento, which we haven't tried yet. But there's always tomorrow. Sweet dreams. I gotta go. My second glass of the Malbec is waiting for me. And, um, my husband too.
